Porringers, Quaichs & Bowls

Porringers, Quaichs & Bowls

Bowls and porringers reflect traditional gifts given to babies as far back as the medieval period and, although these should now be seen more as silver collectables rather than practical untensils, they are often used in later life as bonbonieres, pin dishes and sugar bowls.

Quaichs have always been popular Christening gifts, especially in Scotland, because of their association with Loving Cups and Cups of Friendship. Often handed round with a "wee dram" to toast at key rite of passage, a quaich received at Baptism stays with you throughout life.
